Home Learning
Our online home learning platform is Satchel One.
At Birchwood, we understand that home learning is an essential part of school life. Home learning activities can vary significantly, particularly between younger and older students, and may include (but are not limited to) home reading activities, longer projects or essays, or more directed and focused work such as revision for tests. The benefits of home learning are well documented. It has a positive impact on attainment and helps to build independence and organisational skills.
The level and duration of home learning will be appropriate to the age and ability of the students in each group.
Home learning is recorded on Satchel One. This platform allows both students and parents to view the home learning set online, and helps students organise their home learning priorities. It is the student’s responsibility to check what home learning has been set and to complete it to an appropriate standard.
Students should seek appropriate support from their teacher and ask questions to ensure that they are able to complete tasks set for home learning in a good time and certainly before the due date. Students are responsible for completion of home learning to the best of their ability and on time. It is the student’s responsibility to catch up with home learning missed due to absence.
